I Believe

I thought it strange
When You changed my name
From Simon and called me Your rock
And when I saw You walk on the lake
That really gave me quite a shock
I know I’ve changed
But there are things that I don’t understand
How can man be God
And God be man?
I can’t conceive
But I believe
Yes I believe.

You said follow me
And feed my flock
With a few fish and some bread
And then I saw You healing the sick
And giving life back to the dead
I know I’ve changed
But there are things that I don’t understand
How can man be God
And God be man?
I can’t conceive
But I believe
Yes I believe.

Now You say You’re going away
And leaving us all behind
You look at me as I beg You to stay
And leave me nowhere to hide
You say that I’ll betray You
And that grieves me deep inside

I know I’ve changed
But there are things that I don’t understand
How can man be God
And God be man?
I can’t conceive
But I believe
Yes I believe.

Keeping The Faith

These are the days
That we talked about
The power’s down
And the world’s blacked out
The prophets told us
Now it’s coming true
So I’ll just keep the faith
While I’m waiting for You

Yes I’ll keep on keeping the faith
It’s not always easy
And it’s not always safe
There are many days
When I could turn back
But I praise You Jesus
‘Cos it’s not faith I lack

We gather our loved ones
And keep them close
And pray to Father,
Son, and Holy Ghost
The end of days
Are coming fast
The water’s low
And the food won’t last

But I‘ll keep on keeping the faith
It’s not always easy
And it’s not always safe
There are many days
When I could turn back
But I praise You Jesus
‘Cos it’s not faith I lack

It’s not as though my faith is blind
I’ve thought it through time after time
My logic’s sound, it will not fade
I’m going to keep on keeping the faith

Yes I‘ll keep on keeping the faith
It’s not always easy
And it’s not always safe
There are many days
When I could turn back
But I praise You Jesus
‘Cos it’s not faith I lack.

Put Your Faith in Christ

Through hard times and dark places
I’ve arrived at God’s oasis
The journey’s hard
The journey’s tough
But I know the Lord
And that’s enough
To get me through another day on earth.

Good times are coming can you feel it?
Don’t let the devil steal it.
You know he’ll try
It’s do or die
Just put your faith in Christ
Good times are coming can you feel it?
Don’t let the devil steal it
He’ll try and win
Don’t let him in
Just put your faith in Christ.

Open your heart and you ought to
Receive streams of living water
Turn it on
Then let it go
At first a trickle
Then a mighty flow
Now you’re ready; so go and soak the earth.

Good times are coming can you feel it?
Don’t let the devil steal it.
You know he’ll try
It’s do or die
Just put your faith in Christ
Good times are coming can you feel it?
Don’t let the devil steal it
He’ll try and win
Don’t let him in
Just put your faith in Christ.

There is a Season

Oh Lord I’m feeling lost
Got a debt, can’t pay the cost
Why do my dreams always fall apart?
I’ve had a lifetime of pain
Tried hard but failed again
Is it any wonder I lose heart?

There is a season to live
And a time for us to die
A season to laugh
And time to cry
There is a season to lose
And a time for us to seek
A season for quiet
And time to speak.

There were times in the past
When I felt I couldn’t last
Another day with all my hurt and shame
And I would wonder why
I was too scared to die
When living seemed to cause me so much pain.

There is a season to live
And a time for us to die
A season to laugh
And time to cry
There is a season for love
And a time for us to cease
A season for war
And time for peace.

It’s hard to understand
When I see prints in the sand
That I’m really safe within your loving care
And then I hear you say
I sent my Son to pay
And I fall to my knees in thankful prayer.

Oh Lord I love the chance
of a time to sing and dance
A time to keep and not to cast away.
There’s a life for us to live
We receive more when we give
And that is why you’ll often hear me say.

There is a season to live
And a time for us to die
A season to laugh
And time to cry
There is a season to lose
And a time for us to seek
A season for quiet
And time to speak

There is a season to live
And a time for us to die
A season to laugh
And time to cry
There is a season for love
And a time for us to cease
A season for war
And time for peace.

The Tightrope of LIfe

I’m telling you straight
That this was my life.
I was living it scared
On the edge of a knife.
This was my life
And I wonder if you;
Are living the same
Balanced there too.

On the tightrope of life
I was frozen in space
Too scared to move
Just trapped in that place.
On the tightrope of life
Just glancing around
I might look up but not down
From the tightrope of life.

And then I heard
From out of the dross
About the man from above
Who died on the cross.
I’m not really sure
If I’m rich or I’m poor
I couldn’t have guessed
Now I couldn’t care less.

On the tightrope of life
Just balancing there
I hadn’t a hope and
I hadn’t a prayer
On the tightrope of life
Just glancing around
I might look up but not down
From the tightrope of life.

I’ve found the love of my life
He’s the man from above
He keeps me sane and
Surrounds me with love.
So now that I’m saved
I’d like to tell you
About the man from above
And the way that is true.

To Be With Him Tonight

Take your worries from the world
To the cross and make a pile
Just relax and be at peace
Forget your troubles for a while

Let me tell you what I do
When I need to put things right
I set aside some time for Christ
I'm going to be with Him tonight.

He's the only one who can
Help me make sense of the world
He's the Saviour of mankind
And tonight I need Him so.

I've tried other gods and know
They have the power to excite
But for me there's only One
I'm going to be with Him tonight.

He's the only one who can
Help me make sense of the world
He's the Saviour of mankind
And tonight I need Him so.

I've tried other gods and know
They have the power to excite
But for me there's only One
I'm going to be with Him tonight.

The End of the Line

I saw a photo of Eliza Jane
Standing in the porch of the church
She married Sydney Charles at twenty three
Then they raised a family
It wasn't always easy, it never is
But the good times came out on top
Then last Tuesday at ten to four
Her heart just suddenly stopped.

You don't always realise how quickly it goes
When you're travelling forward in time
And you don't always know how long you've left
Till you've reached the end of the line.
There were lines on paper to say how she died
But they didn't match the lines on her face
And at journeys end when she went to the Lord
She did it with an easy grace.

I've seen other pictures of Eliza Jane
Dancing at the Moulin Rouge
Tall and graceful with feathers galore
Flashing her legs and then more
When you look at the old you don't always see
The youngsters that they used to be
Moaners complained about how she began
But to me she was just my Nan.

There's nothing left to say
We buried my Nan today
Standing around
As they lowered her down
Then we just walked away.

Are We Alone

Stephen is still waiting for the priest to make his call
So has another coffee and paces down the hall
His father who is dying in a state of mortal sin
Prays for absolution so God will let him in.

Are we alone?
Or is there someone out there
Calling us His own?
Are we alone?
Or is there someone out there
Who want to bring us home?

Young Samantha pushes hard, she's only seventeen
And shouts out loud for a God that she's never seen
She's always been a good girl and never done much wrong
Until she took her knickers off and should have kept them on.

Are we alone?
Or is there someone out there
Calling us His own?
Are we alone?
Or is there someone out there
Who want to bring us home?

Stephen's on his own now, his father in the morgue
He has another coffee and wonders how to mourn
Young Samantha's given birth and lies back having done
She doesn't really want to know her trials have just begun

Are we alone?
Or is there someone out there
Calling us His own?
Are we alone?
Or is there someone out there
Who want to bring us home?

And still the world is turning like a great revolving door
Some people just arriving while others are no more
Most don't want to go but find they cannot stay
And others after just a while wished they'd kept away.

Are we alone?
Or is there someone out there
Calling us His own?
Are we alone?
Or is there someone out there
Who want to bring us home?

Temptress

You walk by with your head held high
A vision of grace and beauty
I pray that you'll stay
But you move away
I never felt so lonely

You're just a temptress
Who turns me on
You move in close
And then you're gone
The touch of your hand
And the swish of your dress
Hey temptress
I'm unimpressed.

I know you're taken 'cos I've seen a  man
Kissing you at the school gates
I try not to stare
Pretend I don't care
I never felt so much distaste.

You're just a temptress
Who turns me on
You move in close
And then you're gone
The touch of your hand
And the swish of your dress
Hey temptress
I'm unimpressed.

You dominate my days
And you haunt my nights
Awake or asleep I can't get you off of my mind
You've got your cool ways
And your presence delights
But I know I've gotta put you aside.

If I reveal how I really feel
I'm sure you'd find it amusing
I don't wanna preach
But I'm sure you're here to teach
Why is life so confusing?

You're just a temptress
Who turns me on
You move in close
And then you're gone
The touch of your hand
And the swish of your dress
Hey temptress
I'm unimpressed.

Desperate

Verse 1:

Father God I never knew,
Just how much I needed You
Until You were all I had.
Now I’m standing here alone
Nothing left I’m on my own
I know that You are all I have.

Pre-chorus:

In each and every day
In each and every way
I’m reaching out to You
You are my best Friend
On You I will depend
You’re my beginning and my end.

Chorus:

And I’m;
Desperate for Your Mercy
Desperate for Your Grace
Desperate for Your Love
To come and fill this place.
Desperate for Your Glory
Desperate for Your touch
Desperate for Your Power
To come and fill this place.

Verse 2:

In this place I will stand
I will wait for Your command
And listen till I hear Your voice
I will wait for You to speak
Nothing else will I seek
Your word is all that I need

Pre-chorus:

In each and every day
In each and every way
I’m reaching out to You
You are my best Friend
On You I will depend
You’re my beginning and my end.

Chorus:

And I’m;
Desperate for Your Mercy
Desperate for Your Grace
Desperate for Your Love
To come and fill this place.
Desperate for Your Glory
Desperate for Your touch
Desperate for Your Power
To come and fill this place.

Bridge:

Come and fill my heart
Come and fill my soul
Come and fill my life
In everything come and make me whole.

Shoe Shine Blues

The shoe shine guy in the corner
Has got a secret he can't reveal
Even from the pastor on Sunday
He tries his very best to conceal
He's fond of the booze
He's got the shoe shine blues.

Shoe shine pitch by the river
Round the corner from the tube
Smiling for well-heeled clients
Wealth reflected in their shoes
He's fond of the booze
He's got the shoe shine blues.

Too much booze is for losers
He's totally lost track of time
Family no longer around him
They've left him far behind
He's got the blues
He's got the shoe shine blues

Shoe shine guy had a wife once
She really tried to understand
Then one day she walked out
One too many one nightstands
He's fond of the booze
He's got the shoe shine blues.

Too much booze is for losers
He's totally lost track of time
Family no longer around him
They've left him far behind
He's got the blues
He's got the shoe shine blues

He's got the shoe shine, shoe shine blues
He's got the shoe shine, shoe shine blues

Shoe shine guy has lost it
Working with his cloth and brush
Putting brown polish on black shoes
Now he plays guitar and busks
He's fond of the booze
He's got the shoe shine blues.

Too much booze is for losers
He's totally lost track of time
Family no longer around him
They've left him far behind
He's got the blues
He's got the shoe shine blues
